Directions and Best Times to Visit
Joshua Tree is accessible from the north from California State Route 62 and from the south off
Interstate 10. From Los Angeles/San Bernardino, take I-10 east to Highway 62. From Blythe/Phoenix,
take I-10 to the Box Canyon Road exit and proceed north. Please note that summer temperatures can
be very hot, especially in the southeastern portion of the park. Exercise caution when visiting between
June and September. Fall and spring are mild, while winters are cooler and wet. For wildflower
viewing, the best months are March and April, although yearly rainfall totals affect bloom conditions as
well. Check the park's official website before visiting.

Joshua Tree National park preserves a unique are of the southern California desert where the Mojave
and Colorado deserts meet. Each desert portion has a unique geology and ecology, with different flora
and fauna. The park was set aside as a national monument in the first half of the 20th century but was
made a national park, along with Death Valley, by the California Desert Protection Act of 1994. Today,
the park is visited by those who love the desert, rock climbers, wildflower photographers, and
thousands of residents in southern California who want a quick weekend escape into one of nature's
most spectacular playgrounds.
